CMS announced that more than 110,000 providers and over 3,000 eligible hospitals have been paid by the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. This surpasses the 100,000 provider goal set by CMS Acting Administrator Marilyn Tavenner and National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Farzad Mostashari, M.D., Sc.M. earlier this year.
The CMS May 2012 EHR Incentive Programs Report shows that 63% of the Eligible Hospitals (EH’s) and 21% of Eligible Professionals (EP’s) have demonstrated meaningful use of an EHR system in accordance with the stage 1 requirements.
Hospital registration is at 73% of those eligible which is well on the track of meeting the participation goal of 75%. EP registration is doing well and is close to 50% of those eligible for the program.
A total of $5.8B has been paid out under the two EHR Incentive Programs as of the end of May 2012. The payments by month for the EP’s and the EH’s are shown below. The end of February 2012 was the last day for EP’s to attest to receive an incentive payment for 2011. The end of December 2011 was the last day for EH’s to attest to receive payments for 2011.
